I don't think it would be a bad idea for all merchants to get a little platinum to buy the auction slots. Then they can blow the rest on some sets and gold. You don't really need platinum if u don't use it. Just to get the slots mainly.

My comments on this... Great blog! This can really help new players out a lot. But, some thoughts. Realize that if this is for new players to make money fast, they don't have 1-4 million gold.
