I tanked in elite Tindirin wearing a Tarlok set, super gemmed. I had two awesome mages as firepower, ok I died thrice.

TIP : spam potions like a nutter as you rely totally on the firepower coming...

I do not think shield is necessary in elites. If you die a lot, sure, but you might want to learn what your party could do better for your survivability so that you can be more effective at killing...
