Seeing as my bday is coming up I have decided to ask for a droid phone as a birthday present but I am unsure as to what phone under $500 runs PL best? I'm considering a Galaxy S due to it's popularity but what do you guys think?

Stock HTC Incredible is no good. Once you root it and overclock and put a kernel with GPU+ on it it works well. Motorola Droid (original) works real well, guessing due to graphic chip. Lg Ally worthless, HTC Eris worthless. Only phones I have had personnel exp with.
EDIT: Motorla X plays very well too but it is too big for my thumbs to reach across the screen.
HTC Aria is great or Evo.Evo probably better but aria if you like bright colors.
Im on samsung galaxy 5 lol
what about the HTC Trophy wich seems designed for gaming...?
For $499.99 you can get a G2, hey... it's 1 cent under your budget haha.
If you do decide to get the G2, good choice.
PL is EXTREMELY SUPER smooth on it ;).
happy birthday!
Forgot about G2 yup go with that.
Depends your company? Also, is your contract up? I heard good things about the htc epic, been said to be very nice. Motorola droid X is a good choice for verizon. I for one am not a fan of the software samsung. Galaxy s phones use, but personally aside from that they seem useless. Mytouch 4G is out for tmobile  but for pl and gaming, Parth has said the htc epic is a dream boat for gaming and can support 360 game like graphics.
Droid X is the best :)
I have a Droid 2. No problems here. You should get a phone with a powerful processor like the Galaxy, Droid 2/X. Though Droid 2, X and G2 are considered just mid-tier gaming phones. I guess rooting could make the difference.
I'm on a Droid X, and the game looks great on such a large screen :D There's plenty of room to press the buttons you mean, and not accidently other things you may on a smaller screen.
You're still going to hit the emote button. There just isn't any way around it. :(
