I think that skills with knockback effect should cancel autotarget on the mobs that get pushed back. Nothing worse then blasting a mob and following them into trouble!! This actually can work for all characters. Knockback should buy you some time not pull you into trouble.
That is a really cool idea. It would be beneficial most of the time, unless you knocked the mob into a wall, then you want your autoattack to stay on target. Maybe it should only cancel the autotarget if the mob is knocked out of your range?
