Hello, I just returned to the game last month. I quit when lvl cap was 66.. I am now 86, and before i farm elite golden chests.. Earlier I tried it and boss doesnt drop anything.. Was Old elite maps nerfed? Thanks!

Elite kraken southern seas drops nothing, do different maps.
Try doing Undim Fields for Puzzle boxes, 1st map southern seas for Pirate chests, and last map of Nordr for Warchests. I get gold chests from all these 3 maps most of the time.
Don't farm those chest they don't have value anymore.
