Default Why Is PL more fun for you?

I've been thinking a bit about why I keep coming back to PL as my favorite STS game. I've tried them all and like them to varying degrees. I'm wondering if my reasons for liking PL are similar to other players and if the people who don't like PL, compared to the other STS games, dislike the very things that I like so much?

I'm really interested in concrete physical game mechanics or in-game playing experience and why you like or dislike this game compared to others. But I'd love to hear all your reasons.

I'll start by saying that I really enjoy smashing 12 skills (or slightly less with certain species). My two iPads bear testament to this. The other games seem slow in my hand. I like combos: self combos and cross player combos. I intensely dislike the charging of skills in AL and DL and the fact that you only get to use four. I don't watch as closely what others are doing and consequently it's not as enjoyable. Any programmers out there know if multiple skills are problematic? Why did STS cut back on them in every game after PL?

I tried searching around a bit for similar posts but either my search terms are bad or I'd only be necro-ing an old thread if i found one. So tell me, what do you like about playing PL the best?

    I'll just name off reasons:

1.) The point you made. That AL skills requires you to stare at the skill and not the opponents because you're so focused on charging them. I dislike how you can only use 4 skills.

2.) Socializing is difficult in the game.

3.) You can't rotate the screen - it is not truly 3D there.

    4.) The community.

I like the graphics, questing ability, how there's a legit story, and how stats are pretty balanced. I also like the party mode.

The community is way better in PL than any other STG game that I've played. Although the lack of content is quite disappointing, I still come back to this game because of the community.

    Y pl?

    Camera rotation
    Ease of pick up games
    No charging skills
can make toons with any combo int/st/dex and any gear and be effective
    Daily blessings
More skills make it more interesting to interact with.
Less plat based (even tho I buy it sometimes )
Maps set up so you have to play the majority of it as opposed to "skip these guys, run past here ect)
    Auto attack

We have a culture here, it also gets called a community, but to me the vast history makes my continued involvement fun.
From "pew points, Squirrels, oysters, Laquint wannabes, thanks fairies, bronx bombers, and knowing who is whose secret formerly banned alt is who has made it more interesting. We have our own memes and histories no amount of programming code could have produced.

Anyone have any programming input? It seems to me some of the things we like best about PL are dropped in the later, "improved" games. Is it because programming won't hold in higher levels? I am total noob about programming. I am truly curious.

I just asked a couple of programmers...they reckoned it wasn't a programming issue more likely for better game play or game balancing. They then said a lot of stuff I didnt understand!

I'm pretty sure you made up that first sentence, and you didn't understand anything they said

Not true...I got the first bit then my eyes glazed over and my ears shut down. I could still see their lips moving though. I smiled politely and thanked them both and wondered why we can't all speak the same language!

The only bit I've heard on programming had to do with the fixed camera being easier to make. Having the aspect of rotation makes a lot more code necessitated, whereas the fixed maps are easier and allow for the greater graphics seen in AL (paraphrased from memory).

Also...just wanted to add ...friends are really important and the community too...there's nothing quite like the PL community! And as xghostzx said....wouldn't want to give up my endgame toons....but for me it has been an investment ....not in terms of gold /platinum but of nearly 3 years of my life. Virtually every day for 3 years is a lot to walk away from.

I agree with a lot of things already said. Also, I would add

    1) PL has tons of content to explore being the oldest game. There's a whole lot to choose to do if you want relative to the other, newer games.
    2) PL has the longest history. There are events that come around every year to look forward to, items to collect each time (if that's your thing) and years of items to collect and/or merch.
    3) PL supports a range of skill levels. You can be completely new and ease into the game or a multi-year veteran and still have a good time. You can totally tweak yourself out to try to be the uber-king of one specific PvP level or just kick back and farm your favorite PvE map. And you can even just chat with friends and still have a good time.
