Onyx is more expensive but looks better IMO

Depends on the actual items. The items are "the same," yet the set bonuses are way different. An earthquake 1h Str set (Hammer/Shield) has a completely different set bonus than the crystalline 1h Str set (Sword/Shield) even though the sword/hammer and both shields have the exact same stats.
And the onyx battlesword has different stats than the crystalline axe
Using the search function would likely give you more detailed and better answers from oldies who have done extensive testing and data gathering on the sets. Try it out and let us know how it goes!
