Well I haven't played as many games as other people here but so far crafting never worked with 2 big items. It is always 1 item and some add-ins.
I'd say a separate inventory is the way to go. Essences would take no space, just a red, yellow and blue number.
The initial satchel would be able to hold say 10 gems, extensible with gold (please) or other tokens. However, I'm playing some 10 or 11 weeks and I've hardly bought Colton so I vote against Story. OTOH few people run Hauntlet I think, so space purchasable with Hauntlet coins might give it some life. 10 coins for 1 slot would be harsh but hey, doable.

IMO, I think essences should be put in your satchel, like story tokens and hauntlet coins, and actual gems should be counted as inventory spaces.
Realistically, the amount an average sword or armor takes up in your inventory is SUPPOSED to be less than what essence should take up, unless the essence....well...ya know... O.O

The reason that Essences take up space, like a real item, is because the Crafting System is designed in such a way that it can use other real items to craft stuff. This leaves the door open for a lot of exciting future developments. For example, maybe we allow you to take several Bronze Chests and combine them to make a Silver Chest?

Of course, this is all just talk at this point and none of the ideas I have expressed here are in development.

It does have the wrinkle of making inventory space and management more of an issue, which the Dev Team is aware of.

Any chance of upping the inventory limit? As a collector I have around 250 slots filled with my collection and if a few more seasons go on my quest to get every weapon, armor and vanity for Mage, I'm gonna run out of room to fit anything else.
