I'm a warrior but I believe that guns are useless against elite bosses.

Staff is for mobs and guns is for bosses. I personally use a staff (architect pylon of brutality) because you have to defeat the mobs before you go to the boss. Mobs are also many and much tougher depends on your pulls. So i go for the staff.
P.S. If you don't have money to buy a pylon of brut, you can farm for it in elite ferrix (2nd map in shuyal). Goodluck. :-)

Depends on how you play. If you play mainly in teams and usually fire skills behind warriors/rogues then try one of the new expansion pistols. Also helps in bosses since you can avoid red zones easier. Overall pistols have more damage, which means your skills will hit harder.
If you spend more time soloing, killing mobs or just like to stay in the front lines more then take a staff. Pylon is a great choice for non-mythic users since it offers a considerably high damage apart from high DPS. If you can't afford the Brutality one like me when I started, try the fatality one for the extra crit (difference in DoT skills is visible, loads of crits in skills like time shift).
This was true till shuyal expansion. Architect pylon gives alot more damage than any legendary weapon available from shuyal expansion even the guns. Finally now there is the woodland of brutality gun that passes the pylon in damage but its only by .6 of a point and the proc just doesn't compare to the pylon. Since using the pylon I rarely have to use a mana potion since my mana is always filling to 50%.Originally Posted by Zomnisorc

How can guns be useless when they gives more range, equal skill damage and can aim bosses that you can kite around. It is ESPECIALLY USEFUL for bosses because smurfs are not tanks that can go near bosses and attack them in red zones, you know.
I got your point i said this cos i had a mage in my pt with good gear and using a gun he didn't make so much damage..maybe he was the problem then lol

Guns dont do low damage you know. Btw, if you dont use the gun, whats the point if you have to risk your life to go closer to the boss and attack? Guns and staffs have same skill damage, its much better to spam the normal attack and use skills than only sitting at a range and use skills.
Whatever gives you more damage. Don't even worry about DPS.

Get a gun, easy choice you can spam fire the gun as it is auto aim (fires behind you) and has greater range. In fights you can spam normal attack whenever your skills are on cool down and you will 90% of the time be hitting the enemy and doing bonus damage. That is with the 2 being close to equal.
The only point I like and the new expansion gun proc is totally awesome!
Burst in charged attack and doing AoE damage to the enemies around the target...just like fireball but little less damage
