Default Why is dexterity always ignored in warrior tank builds?

    The title says it...

I wonder why the increased dodge gain with dex is ignored in all popular warrior builds.
The only thing benefiting from being actually hit is Vengeful Blood (?).

Lets say if your warrior has 25% dodge, he will get 25% less damage, or do I miss something?

    Please enlighten me ;-)

Warrior is all about aggro. They are meant to take hits, not to dodge. Why else do you think warriors have 6k+ health and 2k armor?

Yes I know, but I thought a warrior gets aggro by dealing damage and by taunting the mobs.

So the big thing I'm missing here is that taking damage from mobs increases the mobs aggro against you?

(Is there any good official resource for this mechanic?)

Damage from a Warrior will never matter, because they cannot compete with the damage from Sorcs and Rogues (especially Rogues).

Most of the taunting is derived via skills and weapon procs. With that being the case, it is the Warrior's task to maintain aggro so that the squishies don't die. In order to NOT die, you must have high armor, high HP and healing skills; therefore, STR is the critical stat.

DEX provides so little HP, Dodge, Crit and damage that it isn't worthwhile to sacrifice 7 HP per attribute point towards DEX. In the best case scenario, you can have slightly better DMG and Dodge, but give up 1k HP - which isn't a good trade-off for a Tank.

It is not a coincidence that most of the Warriors skills/upgrades center around healing and mob taunting.

Whats really unfortunate though is that warriors are probably easiest to stun of all the classes because of the low dex/dodge.

I've toyed with Dodge pets in elite and you can notice the difference in your life bare not disappearing as rapidly. Malison is a great example how dodge is essentially an invisible shield that you can twist with your HoR.

Thank you for your replies so far ... ;-)

A agree that for the basic stats strenght is the most important direction to skill, because it's the warriors main attribute and he will gain the most from it. We can take this for granted.
But something a tank will get benifits from is a good amount of dodge - 10% dodge = 10% less damage taken.

Is there any official resource that explains the aggro mechanics in detail?
I can't take it for granted, that less damage taken from a mob results in less aggro for the tank

10& dodge doesn't reduce the damage take, it just increases the chance for you to dodge the attack.

No, that's exactly what it does. If you dodge the attack, you won't get the damage at all.
So 10% of all potential damage a group of mobs or a single mob is able to give you in an encounter, you will dodge and so the damage is reduced by that 10%.

That's a statistical probability and with all mathematical probabilities you need to calculate with a large set of events so the numbers level out.

You are correct about dodge, thing is, as a warrior, one needs to focus on what the class is best at. For a tank, HP + Armor matters the most, hence people go all STR builds. Let the rogues do the dodging and critting as their main stat is Dex

I'm hoping and trying to convince STS to give scorch a Dodge Happiness Bonus so that he might actually prove to be a useful warrior pet. the Shield alone does nothing, but if we have a bit of dodge thrown in, it would keep us from being stunned so often in Shuyal.

It would be really cool if there were more options for viable builds not just for Warriors but for all classes. Anyone you ask on here will agree that all STR works best for warriors. Maybe as more expansions/level caps come out and with some re-working there will be multiple options which would make the game so much more interesting.

As it stands though, I have to agree with everyone else in here. Any gained dodge from adding DEX doesn't outweigh the benefits that you would get by putting the points in STR.

Each class has its role. If you don't like the role of your class, change classes. It is that easy.

I don't think he was saying he doesn't like being a tank, just would be nice having a bit of variety. But yes, this game doesn't really allow for that, but it does make it important to have a good team composition.

Good question h.a.n.d, I've asked myself the same qs before. Dodge is amazing. I have been saved by a few dodges during lag spike.
And No. Taking damage does not increase the mobs aggro against you. That's myths.
Having more damage on the other side does gain aggro and doing damage.
Now, I've indeed tinkered with dex. Having tarlok of assault* gear does gives significant dex, when compared to mythic upgraded armor which has no dex.
Sad to admit, dex is failed on warrior. Str is always better than dex.
Consider this fact if you think dex is giving you more dmg: Str gives u 3x the damage of dex.
At +25dex: you gain 1.25 dodge, .625 crit.
Not a good trade off at all. Go the full str always.
