Its not that hard once you can successfully navigate gimps UI.

Just put in an alpha channel behind you image and erase what you don't want. Do that for multiple layers and save it as a .gif

I'm sure you could make a great animation.

Gimp is easy to use if you know the UI and you can look up tutorials.

But, I must say, when I did do some flash programing and animation at a colleage, there was too much to remember lol. I was good @ animation in flash but I was terrible at action script

GIMP is such a great program, I have Photoshop and I prefer GIMP for most things. It's not easy to start out with, but neither is Photoshop, really. The program is free, but you'll get your money's worth with this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/143...0XB4JJH1MV80SY

So do I, but those who are less...computer literate and such will benefit from the book, eg, I bought it for my mother when she was contemplating Photoshop and she now uses it for everything she'd use Photoshop for.
