Hi, Im new to AL. Started yesterday. I tried it once before and it was pretty confusing, because I was used to PL, but now Im getting the hang of it. Lots of things are better in AL, but there are a few things I dislike for e.g.
1. You can only use 4 skills
2. You only get 15 minute non - plat elixirs
3. Game is very Platinum dependent, but thats probably why AL is their main game now.
4. Classes can only equip base stat items. This one I'm really shocked at. I expected that they would give the chance to experiment with your character. I'm looking forward to an update like this. Maybe from 41 onward, classes can equip other stat items.

I like the idea of chests/locked chests but then again you need platinum to open locked ones. I have a question though. Can good items drop from bosses or do they come from locked chests only or buying with platinum from the store?

Right now, the only things noteworthy in locked crates are Arcane Pets, the Arcane Shard, and the Mythic Armor and Helm (maybe), but they are very rare. There are Mythic Weapons in the event crates (Elondrian, Necropolis, Ursume), but they're a rare loot as well.

Currently, the best gear in the game are imbued sets which are farmable at end-game Planar Tombs. There's also a rare drop in the Planar Arena for a Mythic Planar Pendant recipe used to craft the mythic pendant.

So yes and no, you can get some things with plat, but others you'd have to work for

As far as plat dependent it really doesn't have to be. I am basically a non-plat player (I get a little from free offers from time to time) but with a little hard work and help from friends and a good guild I have done just about everything in game. I don't pvp, so maybe thats more plat dependent. But I have earned all my gold and bought all my gear, I do not have the "best" gear but I have gear that gets me through elites just fine all purchased with gold I made playing the game.
I guess I don't get what you mean in number 4. I know you can go into auction and see what your stats would be with the different type of gears...
any ways, don't despair, the game is very possible to play without relaying on plat and I think to get the most out of it make some good friends and get into a good, friendly, guild!

Welcome to AL. AL isnt as plat dependent as it used to be, but it still kind of is. You can buy elixir kits now, but AL is the only MMO that I've played that has only 4 skill spots. I think this game needs more of that MMO feel. The game needs more scenery and bigger towns in my opinion.
