I believe if you open chests at 40 you get a lvl 40 version, and I also believe that's not intended lol

that's weird! I wonder if you can still use to upgrade to imbued and will it be l40 or l41?

Can these lower level armors be added to the recipe and be imbued :O twinks with imbued xD
