Reputation - A controversial topic

So, of course we know that next to our profile avatars, there are reputation bars. The reputation there is, the more thanks or green thumbs you got. But I don't think it is an accurate portryal on forums. Lots of people use it to get an advantage over new users, and some people even make multiple accounts to thank themselves. I may have 11 bars, but I'm not as smart about the game as some people who don't even have 1 light green bar. And I don't have as much self control as some do. So what do you guys think about this?

I don't think STS can change it. They use vBulletin I believe.

IF they could, I would get rid of the thumbing up IMO. It just adds too much. Like a year or two ago, Mysticaldream, a forumer from PL, thumbed me up and instantly I got 200 points which is like 2 bars lol. I didn't really earn it either. Sure I would've got all that eventually, but still...

I try and help out by thumbing up posts from members with lower bars I find helpful, though.

I believe the bars, in fact, do give forumers an incentive. But this is often not used to it's potential. I see some players, as obee said, making multiple accounts to thank themselve or spam post on everything hoping to get some rep or rank up from, for example, member to forum adept then senior member and so on.

I agree I don't see why it matters we don't get anything in game for likes? Unless it is just to say they have the most likes? I never even knew about this green bar thing until I just read this post Lol note I'm gonna go look

There are few in here who actually remember the chaos the reputation system originally raised.

When it first got implemented, the forums were spammed with countless amounts of ridiculous guides which were made in order to gain easy reputation. This made the forums quite divided, in the other side were the ones who accused reputation hunters for their obvious intentions and the carebears who wanted to encourage these rephunters "because they were trying to help". This continued on a while, many bans and infractions were given, until finally things settled down a bit as Ambassador program was implemented and later the Guardians program was removed. Now the rephunters had an incentive, they began to seek Ambassador membership, but no more with guides as the guidebashing had reached immense levels. Now the repseekers were just overall carebears trying to be nice towards anyone and anything. The still got bashed though, but not on such a massive scale as it once was. The Ambassador program took a turn to the worse as the most profilic rephunter got in Ambassador program, which resulted in a huge community vs mod argument and the Ambassador program was shut down by STS.

After that they remade Ambassador program but it was more or less left for the rephunters, only few were actually deserving to be in the Ambassador program and things just began to slow down with the rephunters as they were able to be the mighty Ambassadors and didn't bombard as often the forums with their carebear spam.

This is ofc from Pocket Legends forums and Pocket Legends Ambassador program.

Overall reputation was a nice addition but the beginning was awful. Once things slowed down, it was nice to thank visibly the posts u thought were deserving. What u see now is just one or two little kids trying to show the Internet they're cool. But it was horrible and awful, current situation is nothing compared to what it once was.

I wish we were allowed to control how much rep we can give with the Green Thumb button...
that way, we can choose (between 0 and our (current) rep amount) how much to give to a forumer's post.

and honestly, I don't care how much rep bars a forumer has. I base my judgements on their types of posts/personality
