I don't use drain because it "drains" up all the mana.

My reason for not using drain is not because it uses up mana - that's people who use ice storm and spam it. I think it's just not worth the extra skill point for a 40-50 HP heal that does a little bit of damage every 10+ seconds. I'd rather have a more consistent 6 heal or 6 light with stacking debuffs.

Fight, I've gone against vert with your build and he's figured out to simply nuke in between heals. The drain does affect how the fight turns out.

I usually only use drain during a Mage Vs Mage when my HP hits 1/4 so I can get a little more HP when I also use heal.

i too have fought vert and the issue is not drain but the fact that you probably aren't healing to cancel hot flash. pay attention to ice and your tank will make the fight last at least 25 minutes.
