Make sure everyone does the 'laugh' emote before the fight...
joking of course, if you really want to beat him....
have a bird with you to blast shot when his shield is up and either have everyone armor pot before the fight or have a mage stand outside the arena to raise when everyone eventually dies.

probably too low of level and mages die one hit no matter what.

You guy's need a good team with 50's in it. Tank potted, unless you are all in a rift set. Shattering Scream+Blast shot removes his shield, unless he dodges it.

He's difficult to do without a bird now since you can't move him over to a barrel.
One thing, just blast shot drops his shield, no need for scream, and I'm going to agree you need a good team. I used to tank and damage pot when they were gold, and solo'd him easily, but haven't even been back in since the plat for elixirs. In all the runs I've done on him I've seen a total of 2 good teams and we killed him really fast. A tank bear to keep aggro is good, and probably 2 birds and 2 mages.
Duped - Lvl 65 Mage
Conanursan - Lvl 65 Bear
Isniped - Lvl 65 Bird
Without the armor elixir, a level 43 mage just doesn't have a chance. I had to spam health pots as a 50 Mage to stay alive even with armor elixir until I switched to paladin with a rift set. When 50 was the level cap, we always potted up on elixirs to beat Overlord, but that would get expensive spending Plat all the time.
A level 47 came into town a couple days ago and asked if I would help them beat Overlord. I'd been itching to test out my newly crafted Fortified set with my bird so I agreed to help. The party was all levels in high 40s but they were wiped out almost immediately, but I was able to finish him solo with ease in under 2 minutes with no pots - Fortified set rocks on a warbird with 190 armor and health regen of 46!

Actually, Shattering Scream+Blast Shot combo (Cruel Blast) isnt't effective to take down shield; Blast Shot alone does the job.Originally Posted by rangepwnsmeel
I was playing around AOE3 with my new bear this week, and I found many ppl (mages and birds) unable to survive in the room enough to partecipate to the fight (most of times, I switched to my lev 53 bird and solo the boss for them). I repeat "spam one health pot per second", but they continue to die. This is strange, because my bird armor with the usual gear is 82, good but way less than Cyber Talon set of some birds that revive and die repeatly.
Unfortunately, a lot of "high" level players cannot play their character. It's pretty obvious pretty quickly. And unfortunately for them, it mean fewer friends, fewer people who will tolerate a "noob" in a high level game where people should know what they're doing, and lots more dying and frustration. It's unfortunate that's the PL experience for some people. On the other hand, these are also people who "know" what they're doing, so they rarely listen. I find low levels much more willing to take guidance than high levels.
I've seen these dying types and not just in AO3. It's pretty sad (and a little bit amusing).

Are dex mages good in higher lvl? oh yea beat him yesterday when he was full health it took a long time but then ppl left and bunch of lvl 50s plus came and beat him in like a minute

it's pretty simple now
You need a level 50+ bird to go in there with a wing and a talon (sentinel works great as do many of the sewer sets). Using cruel blast or blowing the barrels nearby will bring down his shield, making him vulnerable. This will be very pot intensive.

On a side note, this is a good thing; works charms against powerlevelling.

I still buy platinum elixirs. That's why I mentioned the rift set. With high armor, you can survive him without the tank potions. It definitely is a lot harder then before though.

He is actually pretty easy when u know what to do.
