Good, you turned it off immediately, correct? It's better since it is Salt water instead of normal water. Hopefully the salt protected most of the circuits. Although, it may cause a problem later, as some of the components may be salty and cause rust. But, they can't check that, so it's all good.

Used a small screwdriver to pry open the phone, then immediately took out the battery contact. the normal two button reset didn't work and the screen was black. the LED light from the camera was on.

Do it with distilled water. You can rinse it with distilled water with no damage to your device. It's still wet and even if it isn't. It's best to rinse it, or the salt will cause damage. DISTILLED water only, not tap water.

Drinking water still has some minerals I believe. Distilled water only. :/. The reason that electric circuits short is not due to the water itself, but the water impurities. Oh, and if you want to completely dry out the water, I heard alcohol will dry it right out too, at least, that's what my friend did.

Ya... Your going to need to rinse it anyway, the salt crystals in there will mess up your phone when the water evaporates. Distilled water only! Normal water will mess it up.
