If STS wanted to inject Gold into the economy to make opening Locked crates feasible again, making the cakes non tradeable makes much more sense than reducing the amount of gold payout from the cakes. This way people will have to actually farm (OMG!!!) to make profit from this event instead of spamming the CS. Why they didn't take this approach is a mystery to me.

Exactly. We can't stash energies and sell pendants but we could trade gold made of thin air (cakes). If everyone were to really play the game and farm his moneybags, problem would have been sold.
Well, we have 46 levels with couple of PvE kills, so one should not be surprised. PvE is played only by people that really love that good old AL. Why can't we get a bit of new loot from the old bosses (jewels, vials, fangs) is a mystery to me.

No exploitation occurred. Just people playing the event in the most profitable way. It's fine they changed it but no need for them to blame their poor planning on clever players.
Hmm I'm pretty sure any one who knows what they are doing and understands the economy are able to see why this was such a problem. For everyone who keeps saying the event is ruined, trust me its not. I'm kinda disapointed sts even did this whole event without considering the consequences. I think many people right away realized how bad it was to include the 5k drop from the medium cake, so I'm not entirely sure what sts was thinking. I feel bad for all the hard working, honest people who just lost a lot of value on their gold. Oh well, life goes on.
That would've been ideal. However, instead of fixing the situation with a sound solution, they decided to kill the event, as it's simply not worth farming anymore. In the end, the only ones who truly benefited are the kabilionaires and the "few players" (most likely the same people) mentioned in Remien's post about the hot fix.

Anyone complaining about this patch is completely missing the point. The intended objective of this event is to collect birthday tokens so you can buy special vanities to celebrate 3 years of Arcane Legends. The gold and jewels dropped from cakes are just a bonus.
Why does an event have to be profitable to be "good"? Not everything in game needs to be about you getting rich.
Dis event is boring now...vanities will flood in auc by opening grand instead of medium cakes....

The easiest way was selectedto fix a problem. Again without thinking. Exploiters kept their benefit and other are disappointed. Thats a bad service in all terms.

To the one who complaining, it is better as it is now than we have "few" players make 10-20m a day abusing this system. Ur money will be worthless if u r not become another follower of abusers
