Starting new Char

If I level up a new Char, do I have to do every quest line all the way from Brackenridge to enter Rengol maps? Or is there a shorter way?
I thought I could just go to the end of each map and kill boss, enter portal, then move on. But Glinstone Caverns is still locked for me.
Ie: Lvl 46 mage

Btw, Merek will not give me the quest for garetta.
