Is maxing protection worth it?

When protection is maxed it gives +60 armor... Is 60 armor that big of a deal? I believe ~50 armor blocks 1 damage so why do so many engineers pump skill points into protection?

I've always said, "no".

It only adds ~4-8 levels of armor (class & armor rarity dependent). It costs 6 skill points. It doesn't stack. It doesn't reduce damage intake much (6 points off a ~150 point hit).

If you've maxed out Wither, Life Leech, Empathy, Transference, and Decay, go for it.
