    Default Beware of market manipulation!

    Hello guys!
A new type of scamming technique is used by this user to basically manipulate the auction by buying all cheap items of arcane rarity like this one and listing the exact same type of items with high price in auction. Later she targets the players who are new to the game by luring them to have a trade for their expensive items with her cheap items. Here's a screenshot of her all three characters by which she listed the item. As I'm familiar with the trick she tried to play on me, I decided bringing this up to the community here. I therefore listed one of the same item from my inventory to auction for sale at much lower price, and as I've expected she was very prompt to buy that same item listed by me in a matter of seconds to keep her trap clean for the victim to be convinced. I therefore urge all my fellow players not to fall in this kind of tricks.
    Trade safe guys.
    Peace.

It's not scamming (even tho I feel it is) the player owns the item and can sell it for what ever price he or she wants to

Thanks for the warning anyways. 😊 If you're new in the game you might "get tricked" by a simple overpriced item.

    a dishonest scheme; a fraud.

(Due to nott being able to upload photos I copy pasted).

This is a fraudulent scheme if I've ever seen.

This comes from someone whose made mills off of buying bulk items(fangs in rengol expansion, Elite runner chests, the list goes on) and relisting them in the auction. The theory behind this is, you look for margins on items which you can buy and resell instantly in the auction that you know will sell(margin being the profit calculated by [price you list item for] - [price you bought item+auc tax]. Now I know nott a lot of people do this, due to AL's population being small and the market being so niche but none of the people who look for margins do this, especially the bit about advertisement. We buy items which are worth 30-35k in auc and then resell them for 40-45(scale changes) and nott once have I bought something worth 50k and relisted it in auc for 2-3m and go about in towns trying to sell it someone naive.

Threads like these have been brought up in the past. Alas, it does nott do anything to help the plight of the people who get scammed this way. Nott to mention the devs seem hapless when it comes to curtailing people from doing this. I wish there was a way to stop this from happening, except me and a few other friends who've sworn to undercut this piece of rotten doodoo by a few hundred k's whenever we see him/her doing something fishy like this, there isn't honestly much we can do.
Basically you're saying "Inflation is also scamming".. so everyone scams? Gg..

However listing things overpriced isn't a scam at all, if they force ppl to buy those items and make up lies about it than you can may considder this as a scam.

Auc prices go up and down, they change every day.

It might be a fraud, but there's no proof that the item is worth this or that, aka think before you buy an item.

Is it a scam or is it taking advantage of another's ignorance?
    Is it nice? Nope
    Is it mean? Nope.
    Is it unethical? Nope
    Is it fraud? Nope.
Is it my place to tell someone else what to do with their money?
    Nope.
Is it a waste of gold? Depends on who you ask.
If one feels a certain price point is unreasonable the best, albeit ineffective option is to do what Avikk does and severely undercut the offending offer(s). Keep in mind however that in this particular case this player clearly has the resources to continuously list items many times their perceived value.
In short, ya ain't gonna beat em.

Added: I have not seen this player advertising these prices so I won't comment on that.

FYI: Average high speed internet providers profit margins for video, voice and data are in excess of 50%, 75% and 95% respectively.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

It depends on how you sell it.

If it is completely independent of you, i.e. List it at high price, you do nothing at all, and leave it, then it is likely not a scam. Anyone can buy anything any time.

If you are completely honest about the item you are hyping, i.e. "Pebble for sale. $10mil! You can get it from any dirt patch or beach. Well, mine has a common black fleck, but anyways common. Come and get it!" Totally fine if someone buys it.

If you lie about the item, hype it up in a way that is dishonest, then yes, that is a scam, i.e. "Cancer cure! $10k a pill. Cures cancer! You will emit an aura that cures cancer all around you! Limited supply! Will be gone tomorrow! Get it today!" Well, you will probably get arrested and all your money seized if you scam enough people. Although companies do this all the time. You can watch it all year long. They do it. They're in business a few months. They probably get sued or get prosecution letters. They change their name. Often their phone numbers or websites are the same or they link back to the same website. Eventually they get shut down but it can take awhile. Often, they come back, especially if they are based out of certain countries, until the banks are forced to not process their money transactions.

Between the 2nd and third examples is legal hype: Maybe you tell the truth about your product ("it's crap") but lie about the supply ("Available just today! Buy now before it's all gone") when a month later, you'll just do it all over again. Or how about all those "Grand Opening" signs for the last 3 years? The difference? The lie and how much money is scammed and how many people complain to law enforcement or die from the claims.
