    Default "Failed to initialize graphics"? Check here!

    If you are seeing the error "Failed to initialize graphics. You may need to update your graphic drivers" then that indicates a problem with how Chrome is interacting with your graphics card. (This was previously the "stuck at 99% loading" issue.) Chrome Native Client will not work with certain hardware and software combinations.

    The first thing to try is to make sure you are running the latest video drivers for your hardware.

    Chrome has the same system requirements as WebGL to display the game. Here is the current list of hardware and driver limitations. These are limitations with Chrome, not specific to Star Legends:

    Chrome on All Platforms

    On all operating systems, WebGL is disabled on:

    • The Intel Mobile 945 Express family of chipsets
    • NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200
    Chrome on Windows

    On all versions of Windows, WebGL is disabled on all graphics drivers older than January 1, 2009. Additionally, on Windows XP, WebGL is disabled on ATI/AMD drivers older than version 10.6, on NVIDIA drivers older than version 257.21, and on Intel drivers older than version 14.42.7.5294.

    Chrome on Mac OS X


    On Mac OS X, WebGL is disabled on:

    • ATI Radeon X1900
    • NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

    Chrome on Linux

    WebGL is disabled on all Intel and ATI/AMD cards.

    When logging on to Chrome last night that PL message comes up saying something like "Do you like SL try PL" when clicking on this nothing happened until I had to press 'x' to close. This is the same message on phones/device's though this would usually put me on the market to download app.

    Still trying to comprehend how 2k+ can die from Barrels O.o

    Flip, when you say "WebGL is disabled" does that mean it's a setting that can be enabled, or does it just depend on the driver? That part is confusing me a little.

    I'm using the the Intel 965 Express chipset, with the most up-to-date driver available from Intel, which is dated 1/13/2010. Previously, I was getting the freeze at 99% loading, and now it's "failed to initialize graphics" message.

    It's not a setting. The code knows that it is incompatible with specific hardware and/or drivers, so it doesn't try to run if it detects incompatibility. This is preferable to crashing your browser =)

    Gotcha. I'm using Windows XP.

    You might be ok with the latest drivers - it's the mobile version of that chipset that's explicitly unsupported. You could also try forcing the browser to allow it anyway (see HERE), though you may get crashes doing this.

    Well, I am still getting stuck on 41% loading, with the same JavaScript errors I posted in IBNobody's "99%" thread from yesterday. O well.

    Hrm, yours appears to be crashing before our code starts executing, so it isn't even getting to the point where it might have trouble with graphics. We haven't gotten any other reports of this particular problem, no idea what's causing this one. =(

    Mine was getting to 41% before it gave the graphics error, not 99%.
    I think that's when Chrome decides it doesn't want to play and my fix here should work: http://www.spacetimestudios.com/show...s-quot-**FIX**

    EDIT:
    I think it only gets to 41% if you are using 16.0.912.0 BETA like I am.
    If your using stable then you it takes you to 99% is my guess.

    Okay so I still seem to be getting the "Failed to initialize graphics, you may need to update your graphic drivers" message.

    I have these options enabled:
    - Override software rendering list
    - Native Client

    I am running chrome on my Mac OS X laptop.

    These are my graphics drivers details:

    As I have "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT" which is > "NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT" .... I think?

    Any ideas what the problem is and how to solve it ??

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the problem is to do with the "M" in the video driver's name which means it is a mobile video card for laptops. At this point in time google chrome is incompatible with these video cards.

    HERE are the actual rules for what's supported and not. You may be able to compare with your configuration and see why it's failing.
