Congrats on choosing what I believe is the most fun & versatile class in the game! And Welcome to SL!

As stated above, be sure to check out the class specific guides section on the forums here. The most important aspect, is that all the good engineers out there are running the 6-1-6 as a base skill set. Everything beyond that is just tweaking to fit personal preference.
