iTunes platinum purchase error

I bought a 50$ iTunes card today and put it on my iTunes account to purchase platinum. When I proceed to purchase platinum it asks for my apple is and then take me to a page that checks (none) for a payment option; out of those payment option theres credit cards. Then I hit done and it asks to confirm my purchase and a few seconds later says "insufficient remaining store credit". Then when I open pocket legends there is another message saying;

"an error has occurred attempting to preform an in app purchase. You have not been charged. If the problem persists, please contact support via email at
Support(at)spacetimestudios.com.

Error Desription: cannot connect to iTunes store."

I have sent an email for support but I have not received one. This is so very irritating and I hope I can get some answers.
Other notes: I have read asommers help, I signed out of iTunes restarted my phone deleted the app reinstalled it signed back in and tried again.. Guess what happened...-.-. I AM connected to wifi. And I do have money on my iTunes account.

The problem lies in the fact that Droid/Apple takes $1 out of the card to make sure it is a valid card number. Then it proceeds to make the purchase. So it takes the $1 out, leaving you with only $49.00. This is not enough to purchase the $49.99 Package. So it will show Insufficient Funds. You must have $51.00 on an Itunes/Credit Card to make a $50.00 App Purchase.

I'm not sure about the 1$ thing but keep in mind, like everyone else said, there is a tax. I'm not sure exactly how high the tax is but I like to allow 10% on the item's price to know the actual charge that will go to my account. So, that in mind, if the item costs 49.99, you'd multiply 49.99 x .1 (10%) and you'd get 4.999. Then you would add 4.999 to 49.99, which equals 54.989. So, in the end, the item actually costs about 55 dollars. I hope this makes sense!

Guys, there is no tax either thats a myth aswell i buy $25 in itunes im able to get the $19.99 165 and the $4.99 30 plat on itunes and still have a little left over and if there is tax its such a small ammount you wouldnt be put with in sufficialent funds. But recently i wasnt able to get plat either it said already purchased waiting download waited a few days plat not there i try again same thing so i gave up and used the $10 for plat in sl

We were both right. But you use credit card piosidon? I use instore credit they get charged merchant fees for credit cards but instore credit so he should he able to get the 800 plat pack no problem
