    Default **Introducing: Healthy Legends**

Hello PL Community! I hope all is well (especially after today's update) and enjoying your summer.

For those of you who know (and others who do not), I am a teacher. However, many of you do not know that I am certified to teach K-12 Health and Wellness. I am also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and very active individual. I got into this field, not because I wanted to teach sports and games, but because I have a passion to help individuals develop, and maintain, healthy lifestyles. As some of you know, I left PL a few months ago while dealing with some health issues. As I recovered, I realized just how sedentary I had become. Someone who use to workout religiously hadn't done a pull-up in over a year. Someone who use to cycle over 100 miles/week hadn't touched his bike in months. And so I quit PL and began my climb back to the top. While going through some of my books last night, it hit me: "Why not spread your passion and knowledge to the STS community??" The answer is this thread.

We all deal with stress. Whether it be in a scholastic setting, home environment, work environment, relationships, etc., stress is always there. How we handle that stress determines how we will respond each day to the obstacles we face. Exercise is the best way to help you not only look and feel better, but to learn how to manage that stress. My goal: to do my best to educate my fellow community members on all things dealing in health and wellness. Many of us, myself included, do not realize how much STS engulfs our lives with their games. DON'T GET ME WRONG, games are fun and have a place. However, they should not be the only exit in our lives. If we do not eat properly, get enough rest, and exercise regularly, then reaching the next elite cap will be the least of your concerns.

The purpose of this thread is to introduce you guys to my vision. Beginning next week (preferrably Monday), I will begin to post threads to educate the community on things we can do to take care of ourselves. I will focus on topics such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, injury care and prevention, and much more. In my mind, if I only help one community member, then my mission is complete (though I hope to help many, many more.) Once I am able to gauge the frequency, need, and interest of my posts, I will transfer it into a blog (though I have never "blogged" in my life... lol).

If you guys have anything you want to know about, please post it within this thread. I will try to coordinate things based on events going on during the year (i.e. the Olympics beginning soon), and also the interest each topic attracts. Please understand the purpose of this thread is to strictly to introduce my intentions and gather feedback from the community. Please keep pm's and questions stored for when I post about a specific topic so as to keep this thread running smoothly and where I can answer questions for all to see in the apporpriate thread.

Thank you for your time. I am excited to share my knowledge with you.

I DEMAND TO SEE CERTIFICATION PAPERS!!

Nah this is a good idea Too many people these days take things too seriously and just need to relax.
I have a minor in nutrition so it's good to see someone else with the same interests.

I like it! Even though I excercise and stuff I am no where near as athletic as I use to be. Lol Healthy Legends is a good name for this, I'll support it!

Dunno how rehearsed you are in videogame addiction on a chemical and behavioral level, but if you want me to write up something about that I can PM it to you and you can add it to the logs

Clearly, if you join a highschool sport (Such As soccer) your forced to run your butt off. 4 days a week in the summer. Like 4miles in half an hour... -.- on the other days I enjoy going on bike rides. Paticularily 75-100miles rides leave you exhausted in a good way!

Love it. I'm usually very grumpy during the day cause I stay up until 2:00 AM each night playing PL >.< I would love to look over your threads. My suggestion would to make a daily blog that we can subscribe to our control panel. Maybe even a daily log for us participants to keep track/compete with our exercises? Maybe an in-game prize for the most hours put in per week? Idk, just ideas. I guess I'm getting ahead of everything, but I can't wait to see where you're going with this.

    +1!

Great idea, look forward to reading more.

Just thought of an idea for our Healthy Legends. Most ipods/iphones (don't know about other phones) come with a built in pedometer. Set yourself a goal to complete a certain amount of steps before gaming commences. Amount of steps can be shared with fellow Healthy Legends to help with accountability/support.

This is rly good idea over here and I am sure it will help lots of peeps over here .

I used (yeh used) to be an athlete as I played soccer. I had 10 trainings per week but even though I trained hard my diet was mostly McDonalds and stuff since after harsh trainings I wanted to have something "heavy". Well, I quit soccer and went to american football. I had a sort of sever calf injury and my both calves had to be operated this year. Even though I didn't train I still kept on eating junk food and I managed to gain 10 kg (kilograms) in few months. Struggling to get back to shape now so this will be useful for me haha.

Anyways, I had a thread about addictions a while back and I think it might help since addictions r always bad. Could give some sort of clue what r the common "problems" which this community "suffers" from. I'll put the link to this thread tomorrow (as I am darn sleepy atm) after I get back from work.

Yeah I like playing sports like football (the one where it is actually a ball, and feet are used for the majority of the game) and rugby. You don't realise it, because you play for fun, but you run a heck of a lot during a game. And because you're focusing on the objective of the game rather than how much you are running, although you get tired, you carry on running.

Quitting smoking. It's hard for me though since I smoke a lot when I drink. All of my friends do it, so it's pretty hard to have a social life if I'm trying to quit lol

    That's it, it's split, it won't recover
