A: There is a debate over whether there is any significance to that, but one theory (legend?) says if the horse has both front legs up, the rider was killed in battle, ONE leg up means the rider was wounded in battle, but survived, both legs on the ground means the rider was unharmed.

A: Oh, the answers that could be offered for this one... might as well keep it safe and stick to science! It is simply the effect of negative geotropism (also called gravitropism). Geotropism is the turning or growth movement by a plant or fungus in response to gravity.
