That's the oldest living spider ever recorded and it lived 28 years. It's a bird eating tarantula.

the orange knee is a bracheapelma species, and Wiki has that species listed 20-30 yrs. Miet is a grammostolla-
"Females have been known to live as long as 15–20 years, but due to the limited time they have been available on the market (and hence for extensive study) it is possible that they may live considerably longer than 20 " -from Wiki.
bird eater is a general term for many large tarantulas, and some orb weaver spiders (sometimes to Erving "magic" Johnston). the 40 yr comment came from the entomologist who gave her to me. He also taught me that this hobbie is a great way to scare off dates you bring home.

Meh, the way I look at it was this:

"Hey, at least it's cheaper than Mitas!"

Still costs 50+ bucks to get it in most instances. I only like the exclusive one, and Granma, hate the others. Already have Granma so I'm not gonna blow all my plat to get it.

Oh, I am sure that they can live longer that 28 years but 28 is the oldest recorded age (I did not mean to challenge your 40 years statement, sorry if it seemed that way). The thing is, even if you have an 100 years old spider you got to be able to prove when it was born and died and that it wasn't swapped around for this to count so by no means the oldest spider that ever lived.

Actually you got me to dig further and: The oldest spider, according to Guinness World Records, lived to be 49 years old. Some kind of Tarantula, I could not find more details...
