the demons need not be evil, just another race of ethereal creatures that are invisible but can power objects such as talismans or weapons...
usually it's a sword, or a wand/staff, as against a cannon or energy blasters, which is why there is a disconnect between the premise and the tech
dont particularly like the direction either, but guess its ok for the story arc of a couple of updates

edit: just re-read, the demons are "evil"
