Try hitting auto attack in town. That usually makes an arrow show under your feet that leads you to who you need to talk to
I've just tried that out but unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem :-( I know who I have to talk to, it's just that the sheriff isn't letting me complete the quest. Hopefully this will be fixed soon as I'm enjoying this game and need a quest to do!
