Login as Guest vs register account
I've been playing PL on 3 devices by just clicking Guest when the app starts
I can't find any info on the differences between continuing with the same vs registering for a login account. Are there any differences?
If I register now, can I save my characters? Do they need to be registered as 3 different accounts?
Yeah register them! You will be able to save progress and items. One acc can have many "toons"( characters ) on it. It's the only way to go

I can never see anything listed for sale in the consignment shops .. does the account have to be registered for this?

How would you have a character on 3 acc if you haven't saved a game?

Yeah just get all three on one acc would make it easiest to switch between.
I have no idea. When I restart the app it's where I left it. I've got a mage to level 52 this way
It saves your characters whether its registered or not. If you register one of your characters, you wont be able to register your other ones under the same account. I suggest emailing STS support and see if they can merge your accounts. Good luck!

You could use guest to Cap if you wanted, but it only saves to that device. - Learnt the hard way back way when but Support can fix that in no time.

To register a guest account, tap Nexus, then tap My Account, then tap Register Account. You can use your Google account, Facebook Account, or an email.
With a guest login, you only get one character per device. With a registered account you can have multiple characters. You can also have multiple accounts per device, each with multiple characters. (This is completely within the rules, by the way!)
The way you're playing, you decide which character to play by which device you use. If you register your account, you can log into it from any device. So, if your iPad battery runs out, just pick up your iPhone and use the same email addy to continue the character. Right now when your ipad battery runs out, you have to wait until you recharge it to play that character.
Since you've been using three different devices, you have three different characters. I suggest you register the characters from each device to a different email. Then, if you wish to merge the accounts, send a request to Support. You can get to the Support page from the top menu here at the forums.
But you might actually want to keep the three separate accounts! With 3 different accounts and 3 devices you can log in with each account at the same time. You can't log into the same account from multiple devices to play different characters. So, I have several accounts. The main thing I do with my secondary accounts is follow behind my main and get extra drops. But I also manage my personal guild with multiple accounts. When I make a new toon, I can invite it to my guild by having an officer on a secondary account. I also transfer vanities in DL between accounts. It is easier to collect a complete set of reward items this way.
But if you do have Support merge your accounts (after you convert your guests to emails), you will get an added bonus of a shared stash! I keep all my gold in the stash so each toon can have easy access when I am shopping in the consignment store. You can also pass items through stash. So when one bear gets a level 20 item, he dumps the level 18 item to stash so the lower level bears can use them when they reach 18.

I guess my question has become: Why register?
So having multiple toons is limited to registered accounts (unless you run as guest on multiple devices).
Is my CS problem related to using guest or is nobody using the CS?
Are there things a non-registered account doesn't get?
Is there detailed information about this that I couldn't find?
I've been able to transfer items between toons by getting them together
and one toon "giving" items to the other toon directly.
Not the same as what you do but has the same result.
Not sure about the CS thing. I've never tried to use CS from a guest login. sry :/
As far as I can tell, a guest gets everything. Maybe if I get a chance later I'll check it out.
