I would go with the first one! In my eyes, the completely black reminds me that it's missing a texture / is graphical glitch.
However, as background element the black wouldn't be that bad, but specifially on back of the text slots it doesn't look good on eyes.

The first all in dark gray background is the best as the edges must be maintained in some way to maintain the art, the background being completely black seems to have little artistic level.
