DPS or Damage more important?

I always thought DPS is an average of how much damage you do in a second. So in those two screenshots the one on the left you do 101.8 damage per swing, however you can do more than one swing a second so the DPS is higher at 114.6 dps.

The one on the right its damage is 114.6 but you do exactly one swing per second so the DPS is also 114.6

Faster the weapon the more swings per second hence the higher DPS if the damage is good. If the damage of the weapon is 200 and it swings once per 2 seconds your DPS is is 100, if it swings once every half a second your DPS is 400.

Obviously damage is based on your base stats too not just the weapon

Well of course you do, but then that depends on who it is your hitting, but not only that you have to factor in their dodge as well and anything else that effects how much damage is done.
