The last playtest we did today, it was looking pretty groovy. However, there are a lot of little polish things that the team is grinding on. It may still go tomorrow, it may slide a day or into next week if they want more time on it. This is why we don't really commit to hard dates. We know our fans want to plan their game time, but we also want to release when it's ready for prime time.

As a former product manager I can appreciate what you guys are doing with not hard committing a date, was the original plan to schedule the release for tomorrow?

Also, a suggestion to pass onto the senior management team. I understand that the structure of a F2P game is built around monetizing users via up-selling virtual goods, but I'd highly recommend removing the availability of purchasing gold through platinum. While it may be monetarily beneficial to your books in the short run, it'll ruin the overall economy and longevity of the game in the long run. The game will end up relying on the influx of new players as old players leave to sustain their margins, which is bad metrics overall.

As this happens, fewer and fewer players buy gold for plat since the amount of gold you can buy will no longer be enough to make it worthwhile. In PL the highest priced items cost 5m+ and you would have to spend $500+ real money to buy enough gold to get them -- something very few (if any) players are willing to do.

None of the pets are tailored for warriors...I'm not into spending money to collect pixels so I won't be getting any of them as bonuses are all worse than my "old world" pets. Guess it will come down to Arcane abilities.

Rogues and mages will be happy though.

True, but since this game is still relatively young and in its hayday economy, the option of allowing players to directly exchange real currency for in game currency does devalue the game and ruin the industry monetization model in the medium and long run.

If you look at stats, there is no long run in games. Releasing a new hit almost always guarantees more money than expansions after expansions for free to play games. So you can see all developers milking it while its hot. Problem with games that dont have plat to gold conversion, there will be massive gold sellers. At least this way, part of the incentive to buy gold illegally is removed. And i can bet the 3percent of players that supports the rest, do convert them to lots of gold.

Sam: Just curious, but will these pets keep improving as they level higher? The old pets learn their last skill upgrade at level 15. Will these pets continue to get upgrades past 15?
