It depends on many factors:
1) Thanks (got) count
2) Thanks (given) count
3) Post count
4) The actual Reputation points
and 5) Individual raise by Devs for writing a good thread for example. The only factor you can't control.
(I believe 6) Bars, is another factor - not sure though.)
You always get +1 Rep Power if you reach an equal number, like 50 or 100, in one of the factors above except 5.

It comes from posting and receiving rep. Giving rep reduces the rep power. Yw. Happy rep power hunting
