The staff adds a nice amount of health and skill damage over the gun but it needs time to get used to.

Solo runs (mainly mob killing) were consistently faster with staff as compared to gun, but the limited range of staffs bug me a bit.

So yeah, I'll have to play around with it a bit more but so far it seems really strong.

Just some recent pictures of my twink in work

My non-mythic mage after all gems socketed. Im pve spec with fire, ice, clock and shield, kdr could be better with a pvp spec.

What I use:
-Architect pylon of brutality lvl 36 with 2 normal wisdom gems. Alt in pvp: darkened rifle of brutality lvl 36 with 2 normal glacial gems (gives about 3 damage less).
-Tarloks helm of versatility lvl 35 with 2 normal glacial gems.
-Tarloks armor of versatility lvl 35 with 1 grand and 1 normal glacial gems.
-Archon ring of force (crit version) with 1 grand and 1 normal wisdom gems. Alt: winter ring of assault (3.1 damage) 2 normal wisdom gems.
-Tarloks heart of assault amulet lvl 35 with 2 wisdom gems.
