What's most usually the best weapon type? Claymore? Rapier? Other? Also, is there a way to calculate the damage per minute or something like that based on the damage it says the weapon deals and the speed the weapon has? Thanks!

Spears/lances/tridents are superior to other str weapons due to the break armor proc.
And to calculate damage per minute, yu multiply yur damage per minute by 60.
Equation:
Dps * 60 = Dpm
Pretty self explanatory.
But I don't see the need to find our yur dpm

Plat items are only good lvl 15 and below. Anything after that. Is trash.
It depends on what lvl yu are.
At level 30. Ice burg set is great
Lvl 45. Copperhead set. Trident comes to play.
The gear is quite expensive. But the trident itself is only 15-20k.
At lvl 40. Djinn spear is what works best.
At lvl 45 the best 1 handed str weapon is available. It's called the Zurz shock lance. Buy note that it's very expensive.

I'm not even level 15 yet so what is the best low-level weapon type? (Levels 10-20.)
Well yu won't be staying low level long. But as a bear. Dex bears are more beneficial. You can use bows/crossbows. And yu can respec your stats at lvl 30 or 35
