    There is no way for them to know when there is a disconnection or lag death as opposed to any other. As far as the system is concerned, you just didn't input any movements or commands. If I was about to die and I just didn't do anything it would register the same as if I had lag or was disconnected. So any attempt to do this could be exploited.

    Even if they could you would see people quiting the game to avoid a death/loss. This used to happen all the time in real time strategy games. The loser would simply turn of their computer just prior to defeat to avoid having the loss recorded.
