Some people don't speak English as their first language.
English holds the prestige of having the most irregular word forms of any language. The general rule in an enclitic language (such as Latin or any of the other romance languages) is that suffixes always indicate the tense, person, voice, tone, mood, etc. Exceptions are made by entire words (sometimes the perfect tenses can be regular, most notably in Latin), rather than individual situations (like in English).
For those unfamiliar to english, this was an understandable error.
