My myth: The night
The night didn't exist on Earth. No one knew how it was because wasn't yet part of the realm of the living. Only a creature knew of the night: the fearsome Big Snake, who lived and reigned in the dark Rio Grande. The night was there, locked and hidden in the realm of the Great Snake. Who would dare unleash the night?
One day, the daughter of the Great Snake decided to abandon her kingdom to live in the forest. Tacunha was marrying the son of the chief. On the wedding day the bride Tacunha called and said:
- Come to sleep, close to me...
- I can't - said her - Not night yet.
He astonished complained:
- Night? What's this? You're talking about something that doesn't exist!
- Yes, there is - she replied - My mother keeps the night as her prisoner deep in the dark Rio Grande, within a Tucumã coconut.
Tacunha called three friends and ordered them to go seek such coconut. But she told them what was inside. Just hearing the name of the Great Snake, the three were ruffled. Of fear. Still have. Another thing: They couldn't open the coconut at all. If disobeyed would be spellbound forever. Why couldn't open the coconut? What could be inside that coconut closed by a resin? - Look at that wonderful spark of night. It's the morning star. It heralds the arrival of dawn. I'll separate day from night. She also created all the birds of the forest.
You disobeyed Big Snake! - yelled Tacunha - Ya'll opened the coconut and released the night, darkness is slippery, fitting and eating all the things. Her daughter is going to turn you in monkeys. Ya'll jump from branch to branch until the end of time!
