I'm glad STS put out a new cap, but I think 300k XP is excessive for several reasons.
1. It has a very low cost to reward ratio compared to the rest of the game. For example, BSM expansion added 5 levels and was about 150k from 71 to 76. So players did 150k of "work" and got 5 level raises of stats. This cap requires twice the work but only gives a single level raise, so 1/5th the reward.
2. It is way more work for the same reward with respect to rings. One big thing that was touted about this release is it would allow for new players to "catch up" with old players on elite rings. However, a player who joins today has to earn 400k xp for his two caps for 2-piece ring compared to only 200k for old players. This is a huge penalty to have to pay, especially considering it isn't the new players' fault that STS took a year and a half off from putting out caps.
3. It adds no particular value to the game. Doing 100k caps was already tedious and mostly ignored by all but plat users. Having to slog through 300k is pretty much impossible unless you use tons of plat to speed it up. For example, I played for an afternoon with no boosts on and got about 1k XP running the various new maps. This means it would take nearly a year to finally cap, and that's assuming playing for the same 4 or so hours every day never taking a day off. The original 100k caps were at least possible, if boring, to do without plat in a reasonable time. This 300k is a plat-only undertaking, leaving those without that kind of money (i.e. most of PL) out.
