Yeah I dont know how, because it says so in the info/news bubble in the right upper corner in the main menu, but almost everyone who was asking me if i want to join t3 pt was surprised to hear that it was double odds and I cant join because my gear is upgrading. I guess it is the missing "x2" symbol on the upgrade button in the crafting station. Anyway those were all palyers who play and have played the game a lot. Imagine what it must be for the new(er) players. Many probably never found out.

Food for thought about the usefulness of the "news bubble" and how important minor things can be dear sts. My suggestion is to redo the event this week doing it properly this time by adding the "x2" symbol :-)
