Rats, the space combat is the best thing about this title. Space shooter mmo with cutomizable ships and persistent space is underrepresented in mmos...

Still think it will be fun/good and great FAQ OP but a mini-eve,frontier, elite, galaxy on fire multiplayer could really cause a stir plus the gameplay in the preproduction looks really tactile and playable.

    Hope it's included eventually.

A cert getting this game anyway

good catches, I just pulled it straight from the website. It seems as if they had the correct version of the game. check out the article for yourself and find out if it for the mobile game or the pc version. I also thought it was talking about the mobile version because it was posted in february of 2011.

OP, here's some info from the press releases for updating the UnOff. FAQ:

    1.Account/Payment:

    - We'll be moving to a Spacetime Account, where your plat will transfer across _all_ of our games

    2. Combat/Gameplay:

    - Three character classes at launch with fully customizable skills and appearances:
Commando, Operative, Engineer Playable classes: Tank, DPS, Healer?

    - Cinco: Blackstar will definitely have a global cool-down. It will probably have other skill-class cool-downs as well. Like all of your "Holographic" stuff may have a cool-down and all of your "Amp-Light" will have its own, etc. We did a build of Blackstar where the DPS character (called the "Operative") could use a target debuff to get different combo results with three different classes of weapon. It was very compelling - totally different from PL in a great way

    6. Story:

-(from Facebook): The doors of the UCS Blackstar will soon open to human and ‘mode’ privateers who have come to make their fortunes and fame, perhaps at the expense of their very lives! Rumors abound that the residents of UCS Blackstar have discovered an alien presence on a nearby colony. Seeing an opportunity to turn a quick profit, countless privateers leap into action to carve out their fate among the stars... where humans struggle to survive against advanced alien swarms, the depths of space, and each other!

-This time around, users will find themselves in the 41st century, in the midst of a battle between the "the ruthless Scorn, a race endowed with arcane powers granted by alien gods; the Riven, necro-cyborg beings allied with the Scorn; the futuristic humans of the United Colonies Defense Force, and their robotic allies known as the Mode."

-Take a dip in the star ocean

The game begins after humanity discovers fast gate technology that enables travel throughout the galaxy. At first, there are no encounters with strange alien races or hostile foes; instead, much of interstellar travel is uneventful as humanity colonises the Milky Way.

Yet, the uncovering of unhatched eggs in a remote planet triggers a series of deadly events that results in the birthing of aggressive reptilian aliens. Naturally, it's your job to clean the mess.

    - It starts with the discovery of "fastgates", portals that open up the universe to exploration. Corporations are quick to jump into the fastgates, mining asteroid belts for resources and making the common mistake of bringing alien egg-pods onboard for study. In the short instance we played, we entered the interior of an asteroid base that was overrun with aliens. Like in Pocket Legends, we encountered smaller creatures before fighting a large, bug-like boss. When we died, we had to respawn from the beginning of the level, but if you have a healer in your party, you can be revived on the spot.
    7. Release:

    - Q2 of 2011: From what I was told, the initial launch will take place in, at most, 15% of the currently planned game world. he says that Spacetime has about a year and a half of content already planned out.

    - Starter Zones: 1) U.C.S Blackstar 2) Asteroid Delta-7 3) Cycorp Labs

    - Level: approx. up to 25 on release.

    - On reserved usernames between games:
Quote Originally Posted by asommers View Post

    -ALS

    8. Updates:

    - Like Pocket Legends, Spacetime Studios plans on releasing a lengthy core game playable to approximately level 25. Modules introduced every few weeks will expand on the game, adding new plot twists, levels, equipment, and character classes

    9. Space Flight?

Confirmed: Not at release. Potential Future Developments discussions:

    - We will be releasing the ground portion first, on iOS and Android. Space _may_ follow. Half of you are probably wondering if there will be a flight aspect to Blackstar and the answer is... possibly. For right now, making the ground aspect of the game is first priority to Spacetime Studios but they would like to bring the flight aspect (ships, ground-to-air combat) in at some point.

Feel free to add/use/not use any of the above.

Here's some old info on the Facebook Avatar for SPS:

Ten Ton Hammer: The concept art that Spacetime released on Blackstar looks great; tell us about the character in the picture? What is her story and how does it tie into the overall world?

STS: She is ‘Diara Zath,’ a “Crusader,” an unholy warrior of the Scorn Empire – sworn to enslave the galaxy for the pleasure of the evil Star Gods. She comes directly from one of our earliest stories and we kept her around because the imagery and the character intent all worked together really well. The story depicts an ambitious woman who rises through the Empire’s ranks due to her intense, reductionist mentality, tremendous physical prowess, and cruel lack of empathy. We learn of her simple, black-and-white view of the world. The story shows us her clean, dispassionate thinking and her fixation on the rewards of service to the Scorn Empire. For her, certain things are perfectly good no matter how you slice them, other things are undeniably bad and nothing in-between could ever have meaning for her. The poster shows the very last moment of the story: she has come to silence a tiresome non-believer sowing seeds of dissent among the Scorn High Council. A dread minion of the Star Gods materializes around her as she utters a hideous death-prayer. It is the last thing her prey will ever see.
    Yum!

    & more lore:

Yes. Our game isn't hard science fiction. It's very much what we call future fantasy, especially the Scorn Empire. Their technology is very much fueled by demonology. Humans may use a cold fusion reactor, but the Scorn use enslaved demon souls and that's how they power their starships.

The humans have a magical sort of technology as well, since they've kind of expanded out into this galaxy and have unlocked latent magical energy within themselves. As you adventure through the game, you unlock those abilities and on the Scorn side it's more like finding rituals that they can use.
Disclaimer: Old info could change... but cool read

    B* Multi-Platforms: PC, Android, iOS

    OP: Translated quote from http://www.funtouch.net/Actu-6114-GD...chez-Spacetime

The demonstration in which we participated was conducted on four different machines: a Windows PC, two tablets Streak (Dell) and Galaxy Tab (Samsung), and an iPad. No lag was to report (the game balance one kb per second), a strong argument for this type of game if the character animation has impressed us is less the case with the graphics and scenery which we found more voters. However, its open character of the many challenges that lie to the players promises hours of fun! The game is expected in the second quarter and will be free too.

    Blackstar:

"Something stirred within us, so long ago; when we looked upon the star filled sky innocent and unaware of the threats that lay beyond. The stars spoke our destiny.

"We colonized those distant worlds with abandon. Through our mastery of art and science, and our undeniable will to overcome adversity, we built a society founded on hope and promise. We discovered and studied the remains of civilizations that came before; we learned from their triumphs and their mistakes. We used our technology to build servants, who became something more. We found that during our endless journey, we had become something more as well. Our future was assured: the rising star of a society on the cusp of apotheosis.

"Then came the Scorn, and their Prophecy, and their War; a Black Star rising to eclipse our own.

"So many colonies destroyed, so many friends and lovers dead. We have paid in blood to learn the true nature of the galaxy. We have seen horror and have felt despair, but we are not yet beaten."
Disclaimer: info could be out-dated (2008)

    fr. RHS-LHS:

    Human - Engineer
    Mode - Operative
    Scorn - Crusader
    Riven - Warpriest

Ten Ton Hammer: So there’s four races?

Brandon: Right. There’s humanity, which needs no introduction. Then there’s the Mode; the Mode are artificial intelligence androids originally constructed by humanity as servants, but later became close allies with humanity through the gradual advancements in artificial intelligence. Those two races represent the United Colonies.

The other faction is the Scorn Empire. That empire is led by the Scorn, who are a race of demonic aliens from the distant part of the galaxy. They worship Cthullu-like star gods who live between the worlds in the cold reaches of space. Their architecture and starships are all inspired by that sort of Cthullu vibe. The Scorn starships have tails, and we actually use cloth deformation technology to make those wave as you fly your ship around.

Since players have a lot of emotive options, we wanted the starships to have a bit of personality as well. All the ships in the game have lots of moving parts, and the Scorn ships have tails and the cockpits tend to look like heads.

The fourth race are the Riven. Riven are undead Scorn, but they’re not just undead Scorn. They’re a completely separate generation of Scorn and have a completely different set of methods and political beliefs. They lived thousands of years before the modern Scorn. The Scorn, as they’ve been fighting these wars, developed technology that would allow them to resurrect the Riven, and those resurrected beings believe that the current generation of Scorn are soft because they enslave races instead of annihilating them. The Riven believe in genocide, and these differing beliefs came to a head in a civil war between the Riven and the Scorn called the Rivening, which nearly destroyed the Scorn Empire. Although that war is over, there’s plenty of animosity between the two sides, because of the religious interpretations they had.

I would totally pounce on a Pocket EVE. But a Sci-Fi version of Pocket Legends is perfect too!

Eve is perhaps the best MMO that "you've never played"?! I will move to EvE one day...

On the iPhone: Galaxy on Fire 2 and Warpgate are the closest things and GOF2 has a Valkrie update end of the month too. But for me I would like to see the Space Combat of B* a lot more: Because it could be multiplayer and pve. That would be exception on the mobile. ^ ^ Check those vidz. The best I've seen/

Wow, I checked out the video and screenshots and I might buy Galaxy on Fire 2 now! I prefer to play only MMO's but maybe I can make an exception!
