Thankyou Kamikazeez that is what I'm trying to get at. It's not civilized like you said to swear and is barbaric in some ways. Children look up to people and try to immitate everything so if they see someone in Pocket Legends who is cool in their eyes they will try to do the same.

If a kid is allowed to go online with no supervision at an age where such "inappropriate" things are said on this forum, (and much worse elsewhere on the net) he/she shouldn't be online. I don't think any of us want to corrupt children, or out to teach them inappropriate things, but people will not censor themselves for the sake of youngsters reading what they type. If things are said here that you don't care for your brother to read, he simply shouldn't come here. The problem seems to be a child that young having access to the Internet. Remember, you can still play the game without coming to the forums, and ultimately, it's up to Devs to censor.

Words are words. I highly doubt that 30 years from now, a child who played pl will wake up in the night, screaming, because he read a curse word. There is a filter which is defaulted on, that should be enough.

Also, give me a GOOD reason as to why "Bull****" is any worse then "Bullpoop".
It isn't any worse except for intent. The challenge is in the understanding of the different shades of gray. I use the words "poopy diaper" all the time to try and help my kids learn to potty train. However when I use any truly offensive scatological references, it's usually because I am upset and angry. The distinction in intent is hard to explain to young kids.

My personal belief is that in either the real world or the internet world, you educate your kids to behave appropriately and help them learn to filter the inappropriate stuff for themselves, at age-appropriate levels. I don't allow my toddler the same freedom that I allow my elementary school child, and my elementary school child does not get the same freedom as a middle school kid, and so on, and so on. Taking care of yourself (and your own) is important.

As for discussing constructive ways to make Pocket Legends a better environment -- go for it. People complain about far less important issues than child safety (e.g. vanity shields) with more vehemence. Just be prepared to hear/see lots of different opinions.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I'm sick and tired of seeing people trying to pin parental responsibilities onto others THROUGH THE INTERNET. It just doesn't make sense to me.
    Amen

I agree with the ban on the 7 deadly words but when it starts extending to WTF and omg that's way to far. What's going to be ok to say tiddlywinks and golly geez?

The more I think about this the more it bugs me. The game has a chat filter still right? IMO if you turn it off you are taking that risk. Don't punish others for the choices you make

You wouldn't show a child porn so he could be "taught" about its impact on society, the objectification of women and its influence in modern film culture. Or let him smoke pot so he can understand its effects on motivation and drive. You would shelter the child because a 9 year-old is not old enough to understand or discuss those things. And that is the age this game is approved for.

Children learn a ton by seeing, as evidenced by the effectiveness of, "Don't drive fast like me, son!" If people are swearing, cussing and acting lewdly, he will do so too. It is not rocket science. It is not about taking on "parental responsibilities." It is about maintaining a decent, civilized society. We choose to play; I think we should know better.
This game is pay to play after lvl 20. That's means the target audience is those with money and a cell phone. I don't know about you but I would never give my 10 year old a cell phone or unmonitored time on the internet. If you want me to babysit your kids it will be 20 dollars an hour. If you don't think that's reasonable, I would have to say your pushing of the parents responsibility onto me is just as unreasonable. As for sheltering my child, that would be my decision on how to proceed. No, I don't think it's unreasonable to show children anything as long as you are there to explain it and answer their questions. The world is a nasty vile and disgusting but it can also be beautiful, charming, and enlightening. Those things are relative to each person and also their culture and I believe anyone who shelters their child from culture(whether you believe it to be good or bad) is wrong. I also agree that allowing a child to be left in such a state without proper guidance and training to be a grave failing of their parents. My way of dealing with things is to teach empathy. Most people describe the world to be white and black, but all I see are different shades of gray.

This is exactly my point about having to take responsibility as their parent. If you want to shelter your child, then make sure they have the filter turner on. If they turn it off, they lose the phone.

ROFLMAO!!! i literally just got back up soda and chips everywhere...thank you guys! anyways, from reading this thread i'm slowly getting the jist of it.. oh, i get it.. you few select parental types dont want all the little tykes exposed to reality; if only through common place social interaction. i agree that there are certain places and thing that rugrats should not be exposed to, however i do agree with banned when he said that the internet is probably not the place for them to be hanging out if that is indeed the situation. dont get me wrong, i'm not suggesting that we should all behave like hooligans and run around forest haven teaching little timmy about how to play red rocket, but there definately comes a point where parental responsibility should take over. it is not the fault of PL or its denziens if you cant institute happy sensibility into your kids. maybe 10 is the age where a good dose of outdoor activity might be more than beneficial...? hmmm? i don't curse or run around acting crazy. i am a respectable player and person. in reality i find that the very people who are creating this environment of shame and degredation are the same 9 to 15 year olds of which this thread was begun in the first place.

What Vallist said. It's very good to know people like you exist in this world. It helps me know that life as we know it right now won't go down the drain.

Actually, the original poster is not a parent at all; he's a big brother asking about things for his little brother. If you read the posts by the parents -- you'll see we do expose our kids to reality; in my case, in bite-sized chunks for what's appropriate for them.
