the guild i was once in, there was this level 14 twink dude who had spent over 250 million gold on PVP sets for all his 3 classes, and he wasn't the only one, there was like at least 500 million worth of pvp sets in my guild alone, that's a crazy ton of gold obtained through plat. there was like this certain charm that attracts lots of people to lower brackets, be it competition or the urge to be the best etc.
