Valiant title
It is rewarded for both Jord Scarch ( I think it is him, if not it is one of the other vardan bosses ) defeat and for killing 5000 elite mobs.
On the none-bug related note, Elite Gates are too difficult for the majority of players and upgraded arcane weapons offer next to no stat boost.

Looks like both the Title and the name of the 5k elite mob kill Achievement were incorrect. These will be fixed in the very near future.

If you patch, the new achievement and title have been renamed.
The title "Intrepid" is awarded for completing the "Valley's Most Intrepid" Achievement.
