Can someone explain "procs" to me?

I was asking my guildmates why kraken gear costs tens of millions of dollars, when I've spend less than 1M gold on each of my gear/weapon items and my stats are better. They said it's all about the procs. But I have no clue what procs are or how to see which weapons/gear have good procs.

Can someone explain procs to me like I'm a five year old?

Besides the stats you see, some gear have a chance to add something, like a damage multiplyer (or many other types of bonus) - that is referred to a proc

The proc is driven by rng (“random number generator”) same as a dice roll- roll a 1 you get the bonus
There are different reasons the gear may have the chance to proc, such as ”do damage”, or “take damage”

The proc is written in the gears description, usually u have to scroll down

Gears have differing chances of proc which makes some gear/sets more desirable
Krak is easy to proc most gear, also some procs are massive & stack with other procs
Also, procs have a “cool down” which is a set time that has to pass before the gear has the chance to proc again

Many use krak gear to proc & switch to that better stat zaar set to improve output
So yeah krak can have worse stats but what it does justifies that crazy price difference

Maybe I missed something, lemme know if that’s not clear

Is there a way to see any sort of data about how good a proc is? For example, if a weapon or gear has a "do damage" proc, will it say how many points worth of damage the proc is? So if it lowers my overall damage stat by 1,000.... will it tell me the 'proc' is +2,500? That way I would know the proc is better than what I'm losing in my regular stat???

Also... I am currently using Mariano bow (rogue)... every so often an orange circle shows up under an enemy and if I hold down the button to fully charge my bow, it releases a super huge damage hit... is that a proc???

some equipment have procs, some have effects, some have both. mari bow for instance, has proc & effect.
Effect:

proc is temporary, effect is constant.

some vanities have procs, some have effects, some have both.
for example:

It’s a good question and I had the same one once I started using kraken gear. I had someone take the time and help me and show me all the icons when various gears proc.
