What does the defense stat do?

I heard it increases health regen. But does it also reduce damage or anything?
Also for PvP should i get defense items or the health based items?

The defense stat raises your armor also. Assuming it is the same as PL (sooo hard to test), then 1 armor reduces each hit you take by 1 point.

i think health is what increases ur regen but in Pvp i wouldn't count on regen because it's so slow. Imo it's best to get health based items.

Sorry, Fluff calculated this, and defense ups Regen, but it is not worth relying on at all.
