There was a similar thread about this the other day for which I said:

As you obtain more reputation (either by "thanks" or if someone gives you a thumbs up) the amount of green bars will increase. For every 100 points (up until 5) you will get one green bar. The remaining 6 require 200 points each. The title under your name however is independent to this. They are as follows:

@billthegod: The reason why you need 10 posts prior to being able to create your own thread is to combat spammers. At one point it was out of control which was no fun for anyone! You should be able to make your own threads now though.
