Beggars: A plague upon PL

Can anyone help me pinpoint exactly when PL became overrun by beggars? I can remember playing a year or more ago and not being overwhelmed by beggar messages in the general chat box (and PM heh) in every single town...
What the heck happened?
When did this annoying beggar phenomenon begin to ruin the game?
Have so many old-timers left for Arcane Legends or whatever that the quality of players has degraded or something?
... I miss the old days where you could sit in a town without the constant beggar messages... Anyone else feel this way?

If it annoys you, put them in your ignore list. Problem solved :D

Beggars have been around since forever really and in all of the few MMO'S I have ever played.

I hopped into DL yesterday for the first time in about 6 months ...the only thing that had changed was the begging. If you think PL is bad go take a holiday in DL then come back! It'll feel like a breath of fresh air on your return! And, as Jay said, ignore is your friend! My ignore list is longer than my friend list. If you beg for gold, accounts, items, power levelling or to be my bf/gf, or if you stand in Balefort and spam your sales, consider yourself ignored. Harsh it may seem....but a much better playing environment for me :)

Beggars aren't a nuisance, they're just typical. Whats really disturbing is that those people claiming that they'll sell you their guild or that they'll sell you their account are now just as common.

That and hacking acc..."give me your staff or I'll hack your account"....got messages that when I entered balefort...

And "can I have free gold. I got scammed" and "I'm a trash can so throw anything unwanted at me" lol

"Plague" is a harsh word to use against beggars. Beggars have and always will be a part of any MMO game. There are always the kiddies who want it all but don't want to do the work to achieve it. Blame it on bad parenting or something to make u feel better.

I wish he could realize. How long and how much hard work, it took, to build that 3 piece elite ring char. Without spending a single plat, including huge pvp kill death numbers. Ah they don't have any idea!!!

It's definitely gotten worse.

I am constantly getting messages like "I really want to buy *****", "Can you help me?", ""Can you just give me 50,000 gold, etc.". It gets annoying.

Yesterday, while doing dragon runs in Feast, one of the players said he got a Green Dragon Helm drop recently, and immediately, another player asks if he could just give it to him? WTF? there's no shame from these beggars.

People also joining games just to beg the other players and then leave the game right after. Is that a good way to spend your time, jumping into games just to beg 3-4 other players at a time?

Thx all for input. I understand how and when to use the ignore button and I know beggin is always part of MMO's; I was more speaking of how begging seems way more common now than it used to be.

I mean I reply to the obnoxious spam beggars that in the time they've wasted begging in town they could have been out makin money...

I just think its a shame ignore lists get so long because of the overwhelming number of beggars and scammers.

Actually got hit by a clever lil rat the other day went like this
Me in bale fort: selling l71 beastly helm
Him PMS me: hey I helped you the other day on my main and gave you 50k
Me: nah I don't ask for gold from any one
Him: so you're not going to pay me back?
Me: nope don't even know you
Him now spamming in bale fort: don't buy from wickedklownz he's a scanner
So didn't get to sell my helm at that moment due to some bs from a beggar -.-
