Antialiasing

Can someone please tell me what in the world is Antialiasing and why I should enable it or not?

It just adds a blurred effect making things seem "smoother". I don't like it much. I think it uses more cpu to have it on too.

Its usually a good thing to have in games but due to the small screen and characters, it just makes everything look a little too blurry, like someone smudged my screen with their oily fingers.
